Online Banking Software
Refreshing and Streamlining the UI
Interaction design
The project
Helping corporate accounting and finance employees monitor account information and create transactions so they can stay on top of the company's cash flow and other financial needs.
The problem
The application had an outdated, fixed-width UI that Product Management wanted to modernize and make responsive. In addition, Product Management wanted to streamline some of the workflows to make them easier for users to understand.
The solution
The UX lead and I designed a clean, responsive framework for dashboard widgets and pages, analyzed existing workflows to see where they could be simplified, and looked for places where we could add value for users, particularly on the dashboard.
I was responsible for redesigning the Create Recipient and Create Transfer workflows for desktop and mobile. In the existing Create Recipient workflow, recipients could be associated with multiple payment types (for example, ACH and wire); however, in reality, almost all recipients were associated with a single payment type. In the new Create Recipient workflow, users select one payment type for each recipient, and only see the fields for that payment type.
The existing Create Transfer functionality provided different menu commands for one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-one transfers. In the new design, these three menu commands are consolidated into a single starting point as part of an initiative to simplify the existing global navigation. A disadvantage of this approach is that it may temporarily confuse current users.
I also updated the Statements and Currency Converter widgets on the dashboard, and designed four new report widgets. The new report widgets provide time-sensitive information right on the dashboard so users don't have to go through the steps of running a report. One disadvantage of the new report widgets is that they could decrease performance, but any given user is unlikely to have more than one report widget on their dashboard.
